Aire at Besancon

Hi
Just trying to work out a route to the Portes de Soleil and looking to drive through the Jura if the weather is good enough. Has anyone stayed on the aire in Besancon and can you tell us if it is convenient for the town, yet still quiet enough.
Thanks

We were at Besancon last year and stayed on the aire. There is building works going on as they are putting in tram lines. The entrance to the aire was different to where it should be ...your GS will most likely take you along the river but this is blocked, you need to approach from the other side. We did speak with the workmen but I dont remember when they said it would be finished ( but I do seem to remember disagreeing with them as it sounded far too soon !)
It was quiet enough, tucked down by the river with no traffic til builders arrive at 8 am ish. Short walk into town . Not too much going on in the winter during the week but for an overnight stop you could do a alot worse.

Hi, Been through the Jura the last 3 winters with no problems, usually channel to Luxembourg, down to Metz, Nancy then through to Besancon. Dual carriageway or motorway FOC all the way to Epinal (from there its quicker to go through Switzerland but obviously you have to pay ). We usually stay Thaon les Vosges (FOC) next to canal minutes from Lidl and the town 48.25037 6.42510 then to Les Rousses next to sportsfield in town (not at ski slope) 46.48764 6.06693. Before heading up into Portes Soleil aires at St Piere de Faucigny near Bonnyville at the railway station (no trains during night) FOC with water dumping and electric 46.05873 6.37448 (4 spaces) There is another aire at Cluses new Flot bleu but I feel you are in the middle of a large car park. But would do if stuck.
Between Taninges and Les Gets turn left up the hill to Praz de lys brand new aires on the left just as you reach the village. 46.14105 6.60284 10 euro a night 8 euro after third night. Possible to ski through trees down to lift with a little pushing, but very nice small ski area with very cheap lift passes on a Sat out with french school holidays. Hope this helps, best place to look up aires is camping car infos
