Valmorel is not really Motorhome friendly! The entire resort is run as a pay car park. There is a specific ‘Camping Car’ parking area, follow the road through the parking barriers, past the crèche and up the hill to the ‘Creve Couer’ area – parking on the left just before the ‘Telebourg’ mid station. However this car park has no facilities – the nearest public toilet is 10 minutes down hill, (and up hill with water!). However if you want to ski here , and can ‘wild camp’ for a day or two – then it may be worth while. There is another, (cheaper) car park below Valmorel, with a bus link – but I do not think the facilities are any better here.
Located close to Moutiers, Valmorel is just before the 3 Valleys. A purpose built resort, which learned the lessons from Les Arcs, Tignes etc. and looks very attractive in stone and timber – with a pedestrianised main street – reminiscent of a Disney version of a ski village!
There are 160km of pistes, links in to the Maurienne Valley, (St.Francois), and the opportunity to ski on the Tour de France route over the Col de Madeleine. Very family orientated with ski in and out apartments and a first class crèche/ children’s ski school facilities, (which is what first attracted me to the area). However there is some really challenging skiing to be found here.
